TAMPA, Fla. – United Soccer Leagues announced the W-League Team of the Week today, with Ottawa’s Mallory Outerbridge named Player of the Week. The Fury striker had a huge week as her side clinched a Central Division playoff berth. Last week Outerbridge had two goals, including the game winner, against Quebec City and then had three goals and an assist against London.
In eight games Outerbridge has earned 26 points for the Fury, who have a perfect record in 2011. Ottawa has three games remaining on its schedule and Outerbridge is looking to keep her form heading into the playoffs.
“[Mallory] has been playing well all season and last week she finished all of her chances,” Ottawa Head Coach Dom Oliveri said. “We’re happy for her because she’s worked really hard to get to this point.”
Big goals couldn’t be more important than at this time of the season, as clubs vie for playoff spots. Outerbridge’s game winner against Quebec City set a trend for the Team of the Week as Erika Duncan (NJ Wildcats), Madison McQuilliams (Colorado Force), Alexa Newfield (Atlanta), Anja Barwinsky (Virginia Beach), Christine Exeter (Toronto), and Frederique Paradis (Quebec City) all netted game-winning goals as well.
