ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rochester Rhinos host Orlando City on Sunday at 7 p.m. at Sahlen’s Stadium in a battle of USL PRO division leaders.
Rochester (8-4-3, 27 pts.) extended its lead atop the National Division with a 2-1 win against the Richmond Kickers on Friday night. Orlando (10-2-5, 35 pts.) tied on Friday night, ending its road match against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in a scoreless draw.
The two teams met once before on May 20, when they ended the match in a 0-0 draw at Sahlen’s Stadium. Now the Rhinos will look to continue the momentum it gained in Friday night’s win against Richmond, which featured goals from Isaac Kissi and Kendall Jagdeosingh.
Rochester is still unbeaten at home in league play (5-0-2) and will look to keep that streak alive on Sunday at Sahlen’s Stadium. Rhinos Head Coach Bob Lilley knows that will be a tough task but he feels his team is ready.
“We have done well at home this year and we just have to protect the game,” Lilley said. “Orlando is a good team and we will have to execute over the full 90 minutes.”
Sunday’s match kicks off at 7 p.m. at Sahlen’s Stadium with the first 1,000 fans receiving thunder sticks. It will also be Salute the Troops night in honor of the Fourth of July and there will be a hot dog eating contest at halftime. Sunday’s game is part of July’s Rhinos Giveback Month, meaning $1 of every purchase will be donated to the Veterans Outreach Programs. Each Rhinos and Rattlers home game in July will feature a different charitable organization as a partner.
