TAMPA, Fla. – USL PRO’s F.C. New York and Antigua Barracuda FC will make their national television debuts Friday as the USL PRO Game of the Week heads to Belson Stadium in Queens, New York. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET on FOX Soccer.
Friday’s inter-conference showdown comes at a crucial point in the season for both clubs and has huge playoff implications. F.C. New York (3-5-5), coming off a heartbreaking 2-1 loss against the New York Red Bulls in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup Tuesday night, currently holds down the final playoff spot in USL PRO’s National Division. In the American Division, Antigua Barracuda FC (7-7-1) also occupies the fourth and final playoff spot but sits only three points out of second place.
The Barracuda are hoping to get back on track after dropping a pair of games at home last weekend against American Division leaders Orlando City. The losses followed Antigua’s best result of the season, a 2-1 victory against Orlando City in the Citrus Bowl. Stefan Smith (5 goals) and Randolph Burton (3 goals, 1 assist) pace the Barracuda.
F.C. New York enters the match in strong form, with only one loss in its past six USL PRO games. The youthful squad is led offensively by forward Tadeu Terra, who leads the league with five assists, and Jhonny Arteaga, who has five goals in all competitions.
Kenn Tomasch will call the action from New York, with former Georgetown University men’s coach Keith Tabatznik providing color commentary. Former University of Maryland standout Jason Arnold will serve as sideline reporter.
The next USL PRO Game of the Week broadcast is set for Friday, July 8 when the Richmond Kickers, who defeated the Columbus Crew of MLS Tuesday to advance to the U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinals, host the Charlotte Eagles. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET from Richmond City Stadium.
USL’s broadcast package with FOX Soccer in 2011 includes a total of 15 live game broadcasts – 10 USL PRO regular season games as well as a USL PRO quarterfinal and semifinal, the USL PRO championship game and the championship games for the Premier Development League and W-League.
The USL PRO Game of the Week is produced by Cultural Global Media Inc.
