PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds return to Chartiers Valley Stadium this weekend for two inter-division games. The Riverhounds will host Orlando City, current leader of the American Division, on Friday night and Antigua Barracuda FC on Sunday afternoon.
The Riverhounds are coming out of a busy month of June, comprised of two U.S. Open Cup games and five USL PRO games. The month of July is filled with another seven games, with five of those games being played in Pittsburgh.
With only nine games remaining in the regular season, the Riverhounds will need to string together some wins to stay in the playoff race. The Riverhounds currently sit in fifth place, just two points behind FC New York for the fourth and final position that will earn a ticket to the postseason.
Pittsburgh vs. Orlando City
In the first-ever meeting between the two clubs, Pittsburgh traveled to meet Orlando City at the Citrus Bowl in early May. Orlando midfielder Kevin Molino capitalized on a defensive miscue by the Riverhounds in the third minute of play. The early goal from Molino was all Orlando City would need to silence the Riverhounds and earn three points.
Friday night’s meeting should be a physical and intense environment on the field between the two sides. Orlando City is looking to continue their winning ways, while the Riverhounds are focused on putting together their first winning streak of the season.
Pittsburgh vs. Antigua
This Sunday will be the first-ever contest between the Riverhounds and Barracuda FC. Antigua will meet F.C. New York on Friday night, potentially carrying tired legs to the stadium on Sunday. With physical exhaustion and mental drain playing a factor, the side that can work together and play like professionals should walk away with a victory.
Tickets for the two games can be purchased by calling into the Riverhounds office at 412.539.1191 or at the ticket booths on game day.
