Thursday, June 30, 2011

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rochester Rhinos host the Richmond Kickers on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Sahlen’s Stadium. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive Scott Vallow bobbleheads in honor of one of the greatest Rhinos goalkeepers of all-time.

Friday’s match will be the second in a four-game home stand for the Rhinos, which will continue on Sunday at 7 p.m. against Orlando City SC.

This is the second meeting of the season between Rochester and Richmond. The Rhinos opened their season on the road against Richmond on April 15 when Matthew Delicâte scored the lone goal of the game to give the Kickers a 1-0 victory.

Rochester enters the match red hot on a five game unbeaten streak (4-0-1) in league play. The Rhinos did however suffer a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to the Chicago Fire (MLS) on Tuesday in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup. Also on Tuesday, Richmond pulled off the lone upset of the round when the Kickers defeated the Columbus Crew (MLS) 2-1 in Columbus. Delicâte scored the game-winner in the 85th minute.

Richmond (7-3-3, 24 pts.) is on a two game unbeaten streak and sits in second place in the American Division, 10 points behind Orlando. Meanwhile, Rochester (7-4-3, 24 pts.) leads the USL PRO National Division by three points over the Harrisburg City Islanders.

On Sunday, the Rhinos host Orlando City SC (10-2-4, 34 pts.) in the battle of division leaders. That match kicks off at 7 p.m. at Sahlen’s Stadium with the first 1,000 fans receiving thunder sticks. It will also be Salute the Troops night in honor of the Fourth of July and there will be a hot dog eating contest at halftime.
