LAREDO, Texas -- For the first time since their founding in 2004, the Laredo Heat Soccer Club announces their first friendly match against a Mexican First Division club in Laredo.
On Thursday, July 7th, Club de Futbol Atlante FC, based in Cancun, Mexico and one of Mexico’s oldest professional clubs will be visiting the Gateway City to take on the Premier Development League’s Laredo Heat. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 8 p.m. at the Texas A&M International University Soccer Complex.
Former and current Mexican National Team members Francisco “Kikin” Fonseca, Christian “El Hobbit” Bermudez and Moises Munoz along with charismatic Head Coach Miguel Herrera will be part of the contingent coming to South Texas.
The Heat have hosted several Mexican teams ranging from Second Division to Reserve Teams to Primera A and the Mexican Under-20 Men’s National Team as well as Jesus “Chucho” Ramirez and Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez of Manchester United fame over the years. However, with hosting Atlante here in Laredo, they are hoping that this is the start of having top tier teams, both from Mexico and Major League Soccer, visit their hometown to showcase the sport of soccer to their fans.
Another highlight of the match against Atlante will be that the Heat’s Carlos Ordaz will go head-to-head against his younger brother, Diego Ordaz. Both Diego and Carlos play on defense for their respective teams.
“This is a unique opportunity for our fans to come see a great Mexican side and a great opportunity for our players to play versus some of the top professional players from Mexico on their home field”, said Heat Owner Shashi Vaswani.
“I invite all sports fans in Laredo to this game that I promise will be entertaining. Due to the seating arrangements at TAMIU, fans will be able to see these superstars up close and get a great feel for the game”, concluded Vaswani.
Tickets for the match will be available prior to the game at the Heat Office located at 7220 Bob Bullock Loop, next to the La Quinta Inn and Suites and Palenque Grill (3rd floor of brown building) starting on Wednesday, June 29th and at the Heat’s game versus New Orleans on Friday, July 1st at TAMIU.
