READING, Pa. – An onslaught of United goals in the first half helped Reading (10-1) cruise to a 3-0 victory over the visiting Brooklyn Knights (1-9-1) at Exeter’s Don Thomas Stadium. Sean Peckham and Lasse Sohrweide each scored their third goal in as many games to spur United. Goalkeeper Brian Holt made three saves for his third shutout of the season.

Reading opened the scoring early in the 10th minute, with Sohrweide netting his fifth goal of the year. Forward Will Bates, fresh off his two week trial with Mjällby AIF with University of Virginia teammate Brian Ownby, streaked down the right sideline, and crossed to the far post. Sohrweide’s header rung off the left post and in to give Reading a 1-0 lead.

The next United scorer was also the recipient of a feed by Bates as he backheeled to Peckham just inside the box in the 33rd minute. Peckham shifted through the remaining defenders, and beat Knights keeper Dario Cabanas far post for a 2-0 advantage.

Reading would tally their final goal of the game just three minutes later, as Ownby and Brian “Cobi” Span would connect in the 36th minute. Ownby took a Span feed down the right sideline, and squeezed his top shelf shot just inside the near post.

The United, who outshot the Knights 13-4, took over first place in the Mid Atlantic Division with the victory. Long Island, who still has a game in hand, has a very rough schedule over the next three games, with road games against Central Jersey, Jersey Express, and Bermuda Hogges from July 2nd-July 14th. Reading will face Long Island on July 20th, in a game that could potentially determine the division champion.

Reading’s next test will be at home on July 8th at 7 p.m. for a matchup against the Bermuda Hogges. The game is featured as “United Against Hunger” night, and any fan who brings a non-perishable food item to the game will enter for half price. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or on readingunitedac.com.
