TAMPA, Fla. – The USL PRO Game of the Week heads to Legion Stadium in Wilmington, N.C. Friday when the Wilmington Hammerheads play host to the Charleston Battery live at 8 p.m. ET on FOX Soccer. The Hammerheads, only three points back of the Battery in the tightly packed USL PRO American Division, own one of the league’s best home records at 5-1-0.
Charleston currently sits two points back of second place in the American Division with a 6-5-3 record. The Battery earned a 1-0 victory against the Dayton Dutch Lions in their last league outing, but suffered a 3-0 defeat to the Hammerheads in their first visit to Legion Stadium this season on May 21.
Since then the Battery are 3-1-1, including victories against Richmond and Harrisburg. Nicki Paterson has led the way for the side offensively with four goals and three assists.
The Hammerheads have been led by the rookie duo of Luke Mulholland and Chris Banks, both of whom have scored four goals in league play this season. Mulholland has also scored twice in the U.S. Open Cup, helping the Hammerheads to a third-round berth against Major League Soccer’s Real Salt Lake next week with an overtime game-winner against the Charlotte Eagles this past Tuesday night.
Kenn Tomasch will call the action from Wilmington, and he will be joined in the booth by former Georgetown University men’s coach Keith Tabatznik, who will provide color commentary for the remainder of the USL PRO season. Tabatznik, who led the Hoyas from 1984 to 2005, also serves as a color analyst for the NSCAA Men’s College Game of the Week on FOX Soccer. Also reprising his role as sideline reporter is former University of Maryland standout Jason Arnold.
USL’s broadcast package with FOX Soccer in 2011 includes a total of 15 live game broadcasts – 10 USL PRO regular season games as well as a USL PRO quarterfinal and semifinal, the USL PRO championship game and the championship games for the Premier Development League and W-League.
