Charleston (5-5-3) has not played a USL PRO match since June 4, a 1-0 loss to the Harrisburg City Islanders. The Battery defeated Regals FC 2-0 on Tuesday night in the first round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Charleston Battery head coach Mike Anhaeuser should have the majority of his squad to select from with Cole Peverley returning to training this week after recovering from an ankle sprain. Graham Dugoni and JC Mack are the only other injury doubts ahead of Friday’s match.
Dayton (1-6-2) enters the match on the back of three straight losses against Richmond, New York and Harrisburg. The Dutch Lions lone win so far was on June 4 with a 2-1 victory against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
The Dayton Dutch Lions moved up to USL PRO for the 2011 season after one year in the USL Premier Development League that saw them earn a third-place finish.
Dayton is coached by Ivar van Dinteren, who played for the Dutch Lions in 2010. A native of the Netherlands van Dinteren played over 300 games in the Premier League and First Division in Holland. He also played for the Dutch National Youth teams up to the U23 level.
