THUNDER BAY, Ontario – The Thunder Bay Chill gave the home crowd at Chapples Park a 2-0 win in their first home game of the season against division rivals Des Moines Menace. Two goals by Brandon Swartzendruber sealed the win in the first half.

In a caution-filled game, the Chill out-shot the Menace 11 to 1. It took 35 minutes for the home side to get on the score sheet when Nolan Intermoia set up Swartzendruber for the games first goal. In the 45th minute, Pedro Pereira was fouled in the box by former Chill player Anthony Colaizzi, resulting in a penalty. Swartzendruber stepped up to the spot and threaded home the shot past the Menace goalkeeper.

Head Coach Tony Colistro was pleased with the energy his team showed from the start. “It was a hard fought game, but we came out with pace and were able to play good defense,” stated Colistro.

Anthony Putrus, Gustavo Oliviera, Sicelo Buthelezi, Jordian Farahani and Wilson Neto all received yellow cards for the Chill. John Sosa and Coady Andrews received yellows for the Menace.

The second match of the home series takes place on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
