CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Eagles host long-time rival the Wilmington Hammerheads in a must-win match on Saturday night at Charlotte Christian Stadium at 7 p.m.
The Eagles plan to build on their four-game undefeated streak with a good showing on Saturday night. After losing four of their first five games, the Eagles have found momentum and are beginning to claw their way back into the mix in USL PRO’s American Division. While they trail the Charleston Battery by nine points for the fourth and final playoff berth in the division, the Eagles also have four games in hand on the Battery to make up that deficit.
After holding Orlando last week to a 0-0 draw the Eagles proved that their defense, led by team captain Greg Dalby, can handle the best in the league. With Diego Martins recovering from a groin injury and back in the line-up, the Eagles’ midfield continues to grow in strength and depth. Producing goals continues to be the crux for the Eagles and Saturday’s game could be decided on the success of the Eagles’ offense.
After a year hiatus the Wilmington Hammerheads have rejoined the league with a bang. While they fell last Saturday to Orlando, 4-2, the Hammerheads have started the new season well, currently sporting a winning record of 4-2-2, Wilmington will be a tough team to beat.
Two first year players, Chris Banks and Luke Mulholland, lead the team in scoring while USL veteran Ivan Becerra leads the Wilmington defense. As always, the North Carolina rivalry will produce a high-octane game that can’t be missed.
The Eagles are proud to partner with the Boy Scouts of America. The Charlotte Scouts will be out in force for Saturday night’s game, while Saturday Night is also Eagles Poster Night. The first 500 fans will receive a 2011 Charlotte Eagles Team poster compliments of Action Graphics, the official printer of the Charlotte Eagles.
