QUEENS, N.Y. – F.C. New York welcomes the Charleston Battery to Belson Stadium on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the second game of a seven-game home stand. New York will look to continue its climb up the standings having gained four points from its last two games.
The club comes off of its first home win of the season after it defeated the Rochester Rhinos 2-1 on Memorial Day in interim coach Paul Shaw’s debut. Qwame Holder scored via a header for New York in the 27th minute while Jhonny Arteaga notched a penalty kick for the team’s second in first-half stoppage time. The result lifted New York (2-4-3) to fourth place in the National Division with nine points.
Charleston (5-4-2) defeated Harrisburg 2-1 over the weekend and currently sits in fourth place in the American Division with 17 points. The defending champion was on the losing end of New York’s first victory on May 13 in Charleston, falling 1-0 thanks to a goal from Graciano Brito, and will be looking for revenge on Friday.
Brito, whose two goals in a 2-2 draw with Richmond on Saturday saw him recognized but the league as he was named USL Pro Player of the Week, leads New York up front. Playmaker Tadeu Terra has chipped in with two assists while Kyle Hoffer leads the backline having played all 810 minutes so far, also contributing a goal of his own.
