USL News Release

Thursday, June 2, 2011

TAMPA, Fla. – United Soccer Leagues today announced the USL Premier Development League Team of the Week for Week 5 of the season, honoring Michigan Bucks forward Kenny Uzoigwe after he became the leading scorer in league history with a pair of goals against the Indiana Invaders on Saturday night.

Uzoigwe notched career goals No. 77 and 78 against the Invaders as the Bucks took a 4-0 victory. The forward, who has twice been named to the PDL All-League team, overtook former Des Moines Menace standout Tomas Boltnar at the top of the scoring charts.

Westchester’s Jake Keegan also had an outstanding weekend as he earned his berth on the Team of the Week with a four-goal performance against the Brooklyn Knights that helped his side to a 5-4 victory. Joining Keegan as the third forward on the team is the Carolina Dynamo’s Hakan Ilhan, whose two goals helped his side not only achieve a 3-0 victory against the Virginia Beach Piranhas but also lock up a berth in the U.S. Open Cup.

Other players selected this week that will likely see Open Cup action include the Central Florida Kraze’s Matt McFarland, who had a pair of assists as his side defeated IMG Bradenton 3-0, and the Ventura County Fusion’s Daniel Barrera, who had a goal and an assist in his side’s 4-0 victory against the Southern California Seahorses.

Finally, the Vermont Voltage’s Harry Lockwood was selected as the goalkeeper for the Team of the Week after recording 19 saves over two shutouts that allowed the Voltage to earn their first points of the season.
