TAMPA, Fla. – United Soccer Leagues announced the W-League Team of the Week today, with Ann Marie Tangorra of the Santa Clarita Blue Heat named Player of the Week. Tangorra, a Cal State Los Angeles standout, continued her fine run of form to begin the 2011 season with a superb performance on Sunday against the LA Strikers.
Tangorra spurred the Blue Heat to a seven-goal haul, assisting on two and netting one herself. Tangorra is a big part of why the undefeated Blue Heat are making waves in the W-League Western Conference this season, after debuting in the league last season.
“Ann Marie has been tremendous,” Blue Heat Head Coach Fabian Sandoval said. “She gives us the opportunity to attack opposing teams effectively with her vision to set up teammates and ability to score goals. In our first three games she has been a consistent threat in front the goal.”
One of this season’s debut clubs, the Dayton Dutch Lions, continued their winning ways as they grabbed a big victory against the Charlotte Lady Eagles. Goalkeeper Brooke McCurdy and match-winner Mandi Back were instrumental in the side’s victory.
Toronto’s Christine Exeter and Laval’s Vanessa Legault-Cordisco also had match-winners for their clubs as the two sides earned three points in the Great Lakes Division.
