LOS ANGELES -- The playoff-bound LA Blues (10-0-0, 30 pts.) will play the Santa Clarita Blue Heat (4-7-0, 12 pts.) for the second time this season on Sunday night at Patterson Field. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT as the Blues look to maintain their perfect season.
The first game of the season between the two sides saw the Blues take a 5-0 victory at The Master's College on June 26. After two goals from Katie Stengel, and one each from Shawna Gordon, Jamie Bell, and Mele French, the Blues took three points and added their seventh shutout of the season.
The Blues are coming off an important victory in Seattle against the Sounders Women. With the win, the Blues locked in top spot in the Western Conference and will host the Western Conference Championship against the conference's second-place finisher at the end of the regular season. The Colorado Pride, Bay Area Breeze, and Sounders Women all remain in contention for the chance to face the Blues for a place at the W-League Championships at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
Since the Blue Heat hosted the Blues they have played three more contests, going 1-2-0. The Blue Heat faced all three sides from Colorado in recent weeks, and took a 1-0 victory against the Colorado Storm, but fell 4-0 to the Colorado Pride and 6-1 to the Colorado Rush.
The Blue Heat are lead by Celina Menissian, who has seven points and three goals, and Natasa Radosavljevic, who has added three goals.
