OKLAHOMA CITY – OKC Energy FC extended its unbeaten streak to six games with a 2-0 win against Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday night at Pribil Stadium in front of 3,643 fans.
Energy FC’s Mark Howard scored the decisive goal, netting his first of the season with a header off an Adda Djeziri corner kick in the 53rd minute of the match.
Moments before Howard’s goal, Sacramento missed its best chance of the match when Rodrigo Lopez took a shot from about 35 yards out that hit the crossbar and deflected off OKC keeper Jon Kempin’s back. Kempin quickly gathered the ball from less than a yard in front of the goal line to keep the match scoreless.
OKC added to its lead in the 68th minute after Energy FC’s Dan Delgado worked the ball up the pitch with a series of moves before passing to Steven Perry near the top of the penalty area. Perry then sent a quick pass to his right to Mikey Lopez, who blasted a shot to the high-left side of the net past Sacramento keeper Dominik Jakubek for a 2-0 advantage.
Samir Badr made his second appearance of the season, replacing Jon Kempin at the keeper position in the 77th minute of the match after Kempin suffered an injury attempting a save several minutes earlier.
Energy FC registered six total shots on the match with three on goal, while Sacramento managed just a single shot on goal on 10 total shots. OKC is 3-0-3 overall during its current six-game unbeaten streak, with all three victories coming at Pribil Stadium.
Energy FC is back in action Saturday, July 12, when it takes on the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in a 7 p.m. CT start at Pribil Stadium.
