TAMPA, Fla. – The Rochester Rhinos will face either the Philadelphia Union or New York Cosmos in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup should they advance against the New England Revolution on Wednesday night in the tournament’s fifth round.
The Rhinos, who upset defending Open Cup champions D.C. United 1-0 in their fourth-round contest last week, are the lone remaining USL PRO side in the tournament and face the Revolution on Wednesday night at Brown University’s Stevenson Field at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The quarterfinals of the 101st edition of the Open Cup are set to be played on July 8-9. Should the Rhinos advance, they would become the eighth different USL side to reach the quarterfinals since the 2010. Rochester remains the lone non-Major League Soccer side to have claimed the Open Cup in the modern era after winning the 1999 championship.
