ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando City SC will host Brazilian powerhouse Sao Paulo FC on Friday night in the club’s second international friendly in as many months. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET at ESPN Wide World of Sports.
The match will not be streamed via YouTube.com/OrlandoCitySC. Tickets can be purchased via TicketMaster or by calling an Orlando City Ticket Representative at 855-ORL-CITY.
After defeating the Orange County Blues FC more than a week ago, Head Coach Adrian Heath’s squad reached the halfway point of the 2014 USL campaign unbeaten, tying the Lions' record for consecutive games without a loss at 14.
Orlando proved to be a worthy adversary when they faced off against AS Roma in the month of May, as the Lions fell to the European club 1-0. City produced a capable performance against the Italian giants, as an incredible strike from legendary Italian forward Francesco Totti separated the two sides.
The Brazilian league, Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A, is in the midst of a month-and-a-half break while the 2014 FIFA World Cup takes place in its home country. The trip to Orlando will allow Sao Paulo to further expand its brand and maintain fitness during the league hiatus.
Sao Paulo boasts a star-studded squad featuring the likes of forwards Luis Fabiano and Alexander Pato, combined with Ganso and Denilson patrolling the midfield in front of Rogerio Ceni, who has appeared in goal for the Tricolor across three decades.
Through the first nine games, Luis Fabiano has found the back of the net four times, with Pato and Ganso each notching a pair of goals that currently has Sao Paulo sitting in fourth place of the Brazilian Serie A . Fabiano, Pato, and Denilson all made names for themselves while playing for the international team as well as in the top leagues in Europe in Spain, Italy, and England respectively.
