ATLANTA, Georgia - The Atlanta Silverbacks struggled to get going in the first half and fell to the Dayton Dutch Lions 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Silverbacks Park. Atlanta fell to 1-5-0 in the W-League while Dayton broke its three-game losing streak to improve to 3-5-0.
Neither team could get much going early in the first half. Atlanta struggled to keep Dayton out of the Lady Lion attacking half as Dayton racked up corner after corner. The defense stood strong during the early onslaught.
Dayton finally broke through in the 22nd minute as Micaela Powers fired a shot from 25 yards out that hit the bottom of the crossbar and bounced across the goal line to put the Lady Lions up 1-0.
Atlanta put the pressure on in the second half and kept the Lady Lions on their heels late. Dayton would take advantage during stoppage time, however, as Shan Jones got the ball behind the pushed-up Atlanta defense and chipped the ball over the Silverbacks’ goalkeeper, Ashley Baker, to give Dayton an insurance goal late.
The Silverbacks host one more W-League regular season match before hitting the road for the final three games of the season on Saturday night at 8 p.m. at Silverbacks Park. The Charlotte Lady Eagles will come to Atlanta on June 21 for a Southeastern Conference matchup.
The Silverbacks will have multiple presentations, both pregame and during halftime, so show up early to support the Silverbacks and buy your tickets from atlantasilverbacksfc.com today.
