CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Battery host the LA Galaxy II Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at Blackbaud Stadium in the first meeting between the Battery and the USL PRO expansion side. The Battery (3-5-4) enter the game in eighth position in the USL PRO standings, while the Galaxy II (8-3-3) are in second place.
All the action can be see live on Youtube here.
Playing their inaugural season, the Galaxy II are the official USL PRO affiliate of Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Galaxy, and the first standalone USL PRO team to be owned and operated by a MLS club.
Major League Soccer and USL PRO entered into a partnership to allow MLS teams to have direct affiliations with USL PRO sides to aid in player development, and this is the final year of the MLS Reserve league. MLS teams will either affiliate with a USL PRO side or enter a standalone team into USL PRO by the start of the 2015 season.
The Galaxy II’s last match was a 2-1 loss against the Rochester Rhinos on Wednesday night in LA; Rafael Garcia tallied the lone goal for Galaxy II. The defeat was the first at home since April 15 for LA.
The Battery had a bye week last weekend and have not played a USL PRO match since a 2-0 loss in Orlando on May 31. Coach Mike Anhaeuser’s squad was bolstered this week with the arrival of defender Emmanuel Adjetey, who spent the 2013 season in Charleston.
