RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers (7-1-5, 26 points) return to City Stadium Saturday to host the Wilmington Hammerheads (5-1-3, 18 points)
The Kickers and the Hammerheads meet at City Stadium for the first time in just more than a year, having last battled to a 1-1 draw in Richmond on June 8, 2013. Earlier that season the Kickers edged the Hammerheads 2-0 at Legion Stadium to avenge a dramatic 3-2 loss in the 2012 USL PRO Quarterfinals, bringing the club’s all-time series record advantage to 11-6-6 against its long-time rivals.
The Kickers enter Saturday’s match following a 1-0 win against the Harrisburg City Islanders last weekend. Kickers all-time leading scorer Matthew Delicâte notched his seventh goal of the season while goalkeeper Joe Willis posted his league-leading fifth shutout to extend the Kickers' unbeaten streak to 12 games overall.
Meanwhile, the Hammerheads are undefeated in six USL PRO games and head to City Stadium on the heels of a 2-2 draw against the expansion OKC Energy FC last week. The back-and-forth affair kicked off with a Samuel Ochoa goal just before halftime, but the Hammerheads conceded the lead just after the break. A second-half goal by defender Tom Parratt gave Wilmington another short-lived advantage before OKC rallied for a late equalizer.
