PDL Game Report

CLINTON, Miss. -- The Austin Aztex took a 2-0 victory against the Mississippi Brilla FC on Saturday night at Clinton High School as they remained undefeated at the top of the PDL's Mid South Division. Alesi Osorio and Andres Cuero found the back of the net for the Aztex either side of the halftime break as they moved eight points clear of the second-placed Laredo Heat and Mississippi.
After holding the Austin Aztex to a 0-0 draw on Thursday night, Mississippi welcomed the defending PDL champions back for the third of their three regular season matches. It goes without saying that Mississippi was looking for a win on Saturday night, but there was extra motivation after suffering a 5-1 defeat at the hands of the Aztex just two weeks ago. A win would have leveled the season series at 1-1-1.
Austin had other ideas. Despite a few chances by Mississippi early in the match, Austin controlled practically the entire match. The Mississippi defense kept out several early chances from Austin, but the Aztex would not be denied.
In the 20th minute, Sito Seoane blasted one at the Mississippi net. Brilla’s ‘keeper, Carl Blundell, made a great save. However, the rebound fell to Osorio, who made no mistake, and rolled his finish into the Brilla net for the opening goal.
Brilla would see the rest of the half out without conceding another goal, but early in the second half, Cuero curled a free kick beautifully into the corner of the Brilla net from 20 yards in the 48th minute.
Despite several more chances, and seeing most of the ball in the second half, Austin was unable to score again.
Mississippi will go on the road this week to Midland/Odessa to take on the Sockers who sit just one point behind them in the standings. The teams will play a two-game series on June 12 and 14.
