ATLANTA, Ga. – Forward Ashley Nagy scored a hat trick within the first 27 minutes as the Atlanta Silverbacks earned their first win of the 2014 W-League season, defeating the Dayton Dutch Lions 4-0 Friday night at Silverbacks Park.
Atlanta improves to 1-4-0 this season and earns its first three points of the season. Dayton falls to 2-3-0 with the loss.
Nagy had her first goal in the 14th minute after forward Morgan Mitchell flicked the ball off her head from a service from midfield. Nagy picked up the header and put it in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Nagy’s second came in the 26th minute on what looked like a cross into the box from the deep right corner, but the ball found the back of the net to make the score 3-0. One minute later, Nataly Arias found Nagy deep down the field and she chipped it over the keeper into the back of the net to complete the hat trick.
Dayton could not get much going without W-League Player of the Week Rose Lavelle, who was not in uniform Friday night for the Dutch Lions after joining the U.S. U20 Women's National team for World Cup preparations.
With the win, Atlanta moves into a tie with Gulf Coast in the Southeastern Conference standings with three points. Dayton is currently in a tie with Charlotte at six points. Dayton and Gulf Coast meet Saturday night in Pensacola, Florida.
The Silverbacks will be back in action at Silverbacks Park next Sunday afternoon in a rubber match against the Dutch Lions. For all the latest updates, check the official Twitter of the Atlanta Silverbacks @LadySilverbacks.
