WILMINGTON, N.C. – Wilmington Hammerheads FC will host OKC Energy FC on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. ET at Legion Stadium. This will be the first and only regular season match between the two teams since the Energy began their inaugural USL PRO season.
The Hammerheads are on a four-game winning streak, and are coming off a 2-1 road win in Charlotte against the Eagles last Saturday. Manu Aparicio and Steven Miller tallied a goal each during the first half as the Hammerheads continued to move up the USL PRO standings.
The Energy are also coming off a 1-0 win from a Michael Thomas header in stoppage time against New York Red Bulls Reserves at Pribil Stadium. The victory was the first for the Energy since mid-April, when they defeated Arizona United FC, and was the club's first home win in franchise history.
“The team has been playing with a lot of confidence lately,” said Wilmington Hammerheads FC Head Coach David Irving. “After a stagnant start at home this season we are beginning to score goals, play better and defend well. We need to continue this winning trend as it is important to capitalize on the home games before going on the road in the upcoming weeks.”
The Hammerheads are currently fifth in the league standings, with the fewest games played, while the Energy are tied for 10th alongside the Eagles.
Following Friday’s match at Legion Stadium, Oklahoma City travels to Charlotte to take on the Eagles on Saturday night at Queens Sports Complex.
