ST. LOUIS -- Saint Louis Football Club has been unveiled as the newest member of USL PRO, beginning play in 2015. The franchise, which was originally announced in early May, revealed its official team name Monday before launching a fan vote for the team’s new logo Wednesday.
“We believe Saint Louis FC will embody all that is great about soccer in this community,” Saint Louis FC President Jim Kavanaugh said. “With a long history of contributing to the game in the United States, we felt simplicity was key. We wanted a name that all of St. Louis could connect with.”
Both logos featured in the fan vote set out to achieve a connection to St. Louis and the city’s rich history.
While one logo features the city’s iconic rivers, the other incorporates 1764, the year St. Louis was founded. The Fleur de Lis, a long-time symbol of the city’s French heritage, also is prominently featured in both designs. Voting opens Wednesday at noon on the team’s website and social media outlets, and will close at noon on Friday.
An event scheduled for June 9 in St. Louis will publicly unveil the club’s logo. More details regarding the event will be announced soon.
“Saint Louis FC is eager to accept input from our fans regarding the selection of a logo,” General Manager Jeremy Alumbaugh said. “We have two strong options for fans to vote for online. We look forward to letting the fans’ voices be heard and unveiling our official logo on June 9.”
Saint Louis FC will join USL PRO next season, playing its home games at St. Louis Soccer Park.
The club is currently accepting deposits on season tickets for the 2015, with full details on season ticket packages and pricing set to be announced this month. For more details or to make a deposit on 2015 season tickets, please visit www.stlouisuslpro.com.
