Mississippi Brilla FC News Release -- www.brillasoccer.org

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

JACKSON, Miss. -- Mississippi Brilla FC players know that being a part of the fifth-year USL Premier Development League team for the summer is about more than just soccer. The PDL team is owned and operated by the staff of Brilla Soccer Ministries, an organization founded in 1996 that uses the sport of soccer to share the message of hope through Jesus with people around the world. Brilla uses the summer PDL season as an opportunity to expose its players to helping and serving other people.

"Each player that is on our team for the summer is able to experience a part of life that is so much greater than soccer," said President Rusty Bryant. "Through our summer church camps, our Urban Soccer Project, and community service projects, we are able to share with these young men the importance of giving back and serving other people."

The first service project of the young season took place on Tuesday afternoon at the Stewpot Community Services in Jackson, Miss. Every year, Stewpot Community Services provides thousands of men, women, and children with hot meals, groceries, clothing, shelter, childcare, mentoring and other programs to nurture them and help them get back on their feet. Members of the Brilla team assisted in the lunch serving line, and also served the people by delivering meals and drinks to the tables.

"Every player on our team participated," said Head Coach Dave Dixon. "From talking to some of the guys, I know that they got more out of it than the people they were serving."

The next community project for Mississippi Brilla is scheduled for Wednesday, June 1 when the team will assist with a Habitat For Humanity build.
