USL PRO Game Report

Saturday, April 26, 2014

OKLAHOMA CITY – Orlando City took sole possession of first place in the USL PRO standings as it took a 2-1 victory against OKC Energy FC on Saturday night at Pribil Stadium. Energy FC brought a sellout crowd for its inaugural home opener, but goals by Dennis Chin and Kevin Molino gave the Lions a two-goal lead either side of halftime before a late consolation by Steven Perry for Oklahoma City.

Both teams had chances to take the lead in the opening 20 minutes, but it would be Orlando (4-0-2) who took the lead in the 26th minute on a goal from Chin, who scored from close range off a cross by Yordany Alvarez. The Lions had the better of the chances, and doubled up Energy FC on shots in the first half with a 10-5 advantage at the break. Lions goalkeeper Miguel Gallardo made his only three saves in the opening half, while Energy FC (2-3-0) goalkeeper Jon Kempin had four saves before the break.

The Lions made it 2-0 in the 57th minute as Molino took advantage of an errant pass and got around a defender and beat Kempin from a narrow angle on the left. Energy FC was able to get on the board in stoppage time as Edmond, Okla., native Perry scored to cut the lead to 2-1, but there would be too little time remaining for Okahoma City to find an equalizer.

The two clubs meet again next weekend on Sunday, May 4 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET, and the game airs locally on 96.1 FM KXY. Energy FC returns home on Saturday, May 10 against the Orange County Blues. Tickets are available online at EnergyFC.com or by phone at 235-KICK.
