Highlanders Head To Exhibitions

VICTORIA, B.C. – The Victoria Highlanders head south to Port Angeles on April 26 for Rumble in the Rainforest, a one-day exhibition tournament benefitting the Peninsula College Soccer Program. The exhibition tournament has the Highlanders facing off against the University of Washington at 3:20 p.m. followed by a match against Oregon IPS at 6:30 p.m.

The Peninsula College-hosted tournament also features the Premier Development League’s Kitsap Pumas, NCAA Division II squad Saint Mary Saints, NWAACC Champions Peninsula College and Wenatchee United.

After an eventful month of signings, Highlanders head coach Steve Simonson will have ample opportunities to test his lineup and gauge which players will see the pitch at next week’s May 4 season opener against the Vancouver Whitecaps at Royal Athletic Park.

“It’s the first weekend where we can get a glance at our full squad with the exception of a couple injuries we’re dealing with,” said Simonson. “University of Washington is a good college team and it’s a good opportunity to gauge where we fit as a team. By all accounts, IPS is a good side as well. We’ll be able to put together some short-term fixes and bond as a group, which is important for us at this stage.”

Competition at Rumble in the Rainforest kicks off April 26 at 9:00 a.m. at Peninsula College. Family tickets of four or more cost $30, 9-15 year-olds cost $5 while 16 and over cost $10.
