ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The New England Revolution today loaned midfielder/defender Donnie Smith to the Rochester Rhinos, the team’s USL PRO affiliate. Smith is expected to remain in Rochester on a short-term loan.
Smith, 23, is in his second year with the Revs after the club drafted him in the second round (21st overall) in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft out of the UNC-Charlotte. Smith has two career MLS appearances – both starts – with the last coming on March 15, 2014, at Philadelphia. He also previously played for the PDL's Carolina Dynamo, and was part of the side that reached the 2012 PDL Championship Game.
Smith joins three other Revs players already on loan in Rochester: defender Jossimar Sanchez, goalkeeper Luis Soffner and midfielder Alec Sundly.
The Rochester Rhinos 19th home opener will be this Sunday at 4 p.m. at Sahlen's Stadium against the Charleston Battery.
