Jobe Among Four Signings For Austin

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Austin Aztex have announced the signing of four additional players, including the 2013 USL Super-20 Championship’s Most Valuable Player Bubacarr Jobe, pending league approval.

Joining Jobe on the Aztex's roster pending league approval is Justin Franz, Kalen Ryden, and Tom McMahon.

Jobe, a 19-year old forward from The Woodlands, arrived in the United States from Gambia in Africa alongside former Aztex player and current Vancouver Whitecaps forward Kekuta Manneh. Jobe scored four goals in five games for Force Football Club Academy during the 2013 Super-20 Championships, earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team and MVP honors. Jobe was identified by the Aztex during the Aztex Invitational Camp held in January.

Franz, a 22-year-old midfielder from Austin, returns for his third season with the Aztex organization. Franz provided three assists in five games for the Aztex in 2013, including an assist on a long throw-in for the game-winning goal in the squad’s season opener in Oklahoma City. Franz finished his senior season at Campbell University with five goals and six assists in 19 games played.

Ryden, a 23-year-old defender from Norman, Okla., returns to PDL action after playing for the Des Moines Menace in 2010. Ryden started all 18 games during his junior season at Midwestern State University, adding one goal and two assists.

McMahon, a 19-year-old goalkeeper from Nassau Bay, Texas, helps provide depth at the goalkeeper position for the Aztex. McMahon is a freshman at Stony Brook University and played his club soccer with Eclipse Soccer Club and high school soccer with Clear Creek High School. While at Clear Creek, McMahon was the District 24-5A Goalkeeper of the Year in 2012.

The latest signings bring the Austin Aztex squad to 20 total players to date.

The Aztex preseason continues with a match versus the St. Edward’s University on Saturday, April 26, 2014. The match starts at 5 p.m. at Lewis Chen Family Field at St. Edward’s University. The title defense begins with the regular season opener with at House Park on Saturday, May 10 in the Mid South Division versus the Houston Dutch Lions.
