CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Charleston Battery take on Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls Reserves on Friday night at Blackbaud Stadium; kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. As part of the continuing partnership between USL PRO and Major League Soccer Friday’s match will count in both the USL PRO standings and in the MLS Reserve league standings.
Friday’s game is presented by MUSC Sports Medicine and the first 2,000 fans through the turnstiles will receive a free pair of MUSC sunglasses. The Battery will play two interleague games this year against MLS reserve teams with the second match set for Monday, August 4 away against the Montreal Impact. In 2013 Charleston played the Houston Dynamo reserves in a pair of games winning both matches; 4-1 at Blackbaud Stadium and 1-0 in the return match in Houston.
The New York Red Bulls Reserve side has played one previous inter-league match in 2014, and defeated USL PRO’s Dayton Dutch Lions 3-0 on March 30 in a game played at Red Bull Arena. New York scored three second-half goals to defeat Dayton with Michael Bustamante, Eric Stevenson and Mike Miazga all tallying.
The Battery enter Friday’s game on the back of a 1-0 loss to Orlando City, Charleston’s first defeat of the 2014 USL PRO season.
The match against the New York Red Bulls Reserves will be available via a live stream on the Charleston Battery website; there will be no live radio broadcast on Friday night.
