COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Colorado Pride have added more high-level soccer experience to their already exciting 2014 roster with the announcement that former Colorado Rapids Women standout midfielder Erin Gunther has joined the team for the 2014 W-League season.
Gunther, a four-year standout for Creighton University, has played in the W-League for five seasons and will be reunited with current Pride Head Coach Daniel Clitnovici after previous working together at the Colorado Force (W-20 & W-League) and the Colorado Rapids Women (W-League). Gunther adds not only W-League experience, but also an international professional experience after successful stints with Östersunds DFF and Kalmar IFK in Sweden’s first division in 2012 and 2013.
A versatile midfielder, Gunther played with the Colorado Rapids Women in 2012 and 2013 and started all but two games during their successful W-League existence. During her time with the Rapids Women Gunther scored 13 goals and assisted on eight others. On several occasions Gunther turned in match-winning performances for the Rapids Women, being chosen as W-League Player of the Week.
The Pride have added several high-profile players during the past few months leading up to the 2014 W-League season, and excitement is building throughout the community for their much-anticipated first home game on Thursday, May 22 against the Colorado Storm at Washburn Field in Colorado Springs. Match time is slated for 7 p.m. (MT).
The Pride will hold their final tryouts on April 19, and the W-League squad will be announced shortly thereafter.
