LA Galaxy II News Release -- www.lagalaxy.com

Sunday, April 6, 2014

CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy II continue their three-game home-stretch by hosting OKC Energy FC to open Week 4 of USL PRO at the StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. PT. All of the action will be available live via lagalaxy.com and the club’s YouTube channel with play-by-play commentary from LA Galaxy broadcast veteran Joe Tutino.

Galaxy II sits second in the USL PRO standings with four points and will look to keep their unbeaten start alive after a convincing victory over the Orange County Blues and late-game draw against Sacramento Republic FC last week.

LA Galaxy II earned a point in a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Sacramento Republic FC at StubHub Center’s Track and Field Stadium on March 29 as forward Chandler Hoffman equalized for the home side in the 81st minute after Galaxy Homegrown Player Raul Mendiola set up the play to give the Galaxy their fourth point of the 2014 USL PRO regular season. LA Galaxy II defender Oscar Sorto was named to the USL PRO Team of the Week for Week 2 after a solid performance at full back in his side’s 1-1 draw with Sacramento

Monday’s match will mark the first time that LA Galaxy II will play Oklahoma City, which kicked off its inaugural USL PRO campaign with a 2-0 victory against the Orange County Blues on Saturday. This will be the first of four matches between the two clubs during the 2014 USL PRO regular season.

The official USL PRO affiliate of Sporting Kansas City, Energy FC is led by former Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper and 2013 MLS Cup champion Jimmy Nielsen. A two-time MLS All-Star selection, Nielsen was named the 2012 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, and led Sporting KC to the 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

In their inaugural season, Energy FC will be bolstered by two Sporting Kansas City loanees, as goalkeeper Jon Kempin and midfielder Christian Duke were added to OKC Energy FC’s roster for the 2014 campaign. Kempin will spend a second straight season in the USL PRO after making 34 saves in nine games for Orlando City last year. Sporting Kansas City’s first homegrown player, the 20-year-old Kempin is now in his fifth professional season and will continue his development under OKC Energy FC head coach Nielsen. Duke spent last season with defending USL PRO champion Orlando City, making 21 appearances.
