IRVINE, Calif. -- Orange County Blues FC officially sign local product of UC Irvine, Enrique Cardenas.
Cardenas returns to the stadium that he starred in during his college career, Anteater Stadium, for 2014. As a senior at UC Irvine in 2013, Cardenas was named First Team All-Big West and the Big West Midfielder of the Year.
"I learned to work hard, be strong in my faith, and be persistent in achieving anything I wholeheartedly desire," Cardenas said. "I went from the last man on the depth chart my freshmen year having an amazing Senior year individually, and more importantly as a team."
“We’re excited about having Enrique Cardenas on our team this year," said Blues General Manager Jon Spencer. "He brings a lot of passion and energy to the game. He’s working hard every single day to get better. He’s going to be the type of player that the crowd is really going to like.”
Cardenas, 22, was born in Indio, Calif. to Jalisco and Colima, Mexico natives Enrique & Elvira Cardenas. His love of football was instilled in him through his Mexican heritage. Cardenas considers Coachella Valley his home, but Orange County has become a "home, away from home".
“I'm so blessed to start my professional career in Orange County where I have met so many great people in and out of the soccer community,” said Cardenas.
