HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The Harrisburg City Islanders are pleased to announce the signing of midfielder Neil Shaffer. The Pittsburgh native joins the Islanders for 2014 after playing with the PDL team the Kitsap Pumas last season. Shaffer has been on trial with the Islanders during the 2014 preseason and has now officially signed with the club for the regular season.
Shaffer served as team captain for the Pumas in 2013 and was voted Player of the Year as he led the team in goals with five in 14 appearances.
Shaffer is no stranger to USL PRO, where he made 31 appearances for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds throughout the 2011 and 2012 seasons. Shaffer has also trained with Legia Warsaw of the Polish First Division. Prior to his professional career Shaffer played collegiality for Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh. During his senior season with the Colonials, Shaffer served as team captain and led the team in goals and overall points.
With the 2014 USL PRO season rapidly approaching, the Isles are preparing for yet another action-packed season in USL PRO. The Islanders kick off their season on the road on April 5th against the Wilmington Hammerheads at Legion Stadium. The Isles' home opener is slated for April 19th against the Dayton Dutch Lions.
