Wednesday, April 2, 2014

TAMPA, Fla. – Four former Super Y-League alumni have been selected as part of a 24-player squad named by U.S. U18 Men’s National Team coach Javier Perez for a training camp being held this week in Carson, Calif. Tommy Redding, Mauricio Pineda, Collin Fernandez and Cameron Lindley were all selected as preparations begin for the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup with exhibitions against Mexico and Canada.

Redding, a former player for FC America in the Super Y-League, recently joined the professional ranks as he signed as a Homegrown Player with USL PRO’s Orlando City, and is set to move with the Lions as they make the jump to Major League Soccer in 2015. Redding was previously a part of the U.S. U17 Residency Academy.

Pineda, a member of the Chicago Fire Academy, was a Super Y-League ODP Camp selection in 2012 after he helped the Fire reach the Super Y-League North American Finals. Pineda is the younger brother of current Chicago Fire Homegrown Player Victor Pineda, who recently made his MLS debut.

Fernandez is also a member of the Chicago Fire Academy, and competed in the Super Y-League in the 2010 season. A former member of the U.S. U15 National Team, Fernandez is currently ranked No. 28 in the IMG 150 for the class of 2015 by TopDrawerSoccer.com.

Lindley, meanwhile, was a standout player for the Fort Wayne Fever as he competed for the club’s U13 side as an 11-year-old in the 2009 season. The No. 8 prospect in the Class of 2016, Lindley has since moved on to join the Indiana Fire, and brings experience from the U17 U.S. National Team.
