COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Colorado Pride announced another standout signing for the 2014 W-League season with the addition of experienced midfielder Holly King. The Pride have signed several established players during the past few weeks as Head Coach Daniel Clitnovici looks for an immediate impact from his team in its inaugural W-League season.
King joins the Pride after a successful career at the University of Florida which included captaining the Gators in her senior season. King was a regular starter in her four years with the Gators, finishing her career with 80 starts at midfield and 12 goals. She earned numerous accolades in her time with the Gators, most notably being named an All-American in her final season.
“Holly has a great tactical mind with a strong leadership mentality and will fit into an already strong Colorado Pride squad. We can’t wait to follow her throughout the season,” University of Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh said.
King was selected 19th overall in the 2013 NWSL Draft and went on to sign with the Washington Spirit for the 2013 season. She appeared in 11 games for the Spirit and was used as both a central midfielder and a center back, showing her versatility at the highest level.
“Holly will join a very competitive and deep roster and she will fit right in," Clitnovici said. "She has experience of the highest levels and ability to back it up. I’m sure Holly will contribute in many ways both on and off the field."
The Pride will will host their final W-League tryout on Saturday, April 19 at Colorado College Washburn Field from 5-7 p.m. Clitnovici is looking for several positions to fill on the W-League roster. Interested players need to register ASAP.
The date falls within all NCAA compliance and players are encouraged to attend and register via email to Clitnovici – dclitnovici@pridesoccer.com. Cost for the tryout is $30 per player and all players will need to register prior to the tryout. Registrations will NOT be accepted on the date of the tryout.
