CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Charleston Battery have signed forward Heviel Cordovés, midfielder Maikel Chang and goalkeeper Odisnel Cooper for the 2014 USL PRO season. All three players return for a second year with the Charleston Battery after debuting in 2013.

Cordovés, Chang and Cooper were all members of the Cuban national team and defected to the United States prior to a FIFA World Cup qualifier in October 2012.

Cordovés returns to the Battery for a second season after an excellent first year that saw him score seven goals in 24 games. Cordoves was part of the Cuba national team during the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification games.

Chang returns to the Battery after an injury-blighted first year in 2013 that restricted him to just six games. The 21-year-old Chang, 5-foot-10, 175 lbs., was playing in his first World Cup qualifying campaign when he defected.

Cooper returns to the Charleston Battery for a second season after an impressive first year that saw him earn the starting goalkeepers job.  Cooper played 22 USL PRO games with a goals against-average of 1.09 and seven shutouts. A native of Camaguey, Cuba, the 21-year-old Cooper, 6-foot-2, 185 lbs., played for FC Camaguey in Cuba’s domestic league.

The Charleston Battery kick off their USL PRO season this Saturday, March 22 against Orlando City. 2014 Charleston Battery season ticket packages and single game tickets are on sale now; for more information or to purchase tickets please visit www.charlestonbattery.com or call (843) 971-GOAL (4625).

Saturday’s game will be available locally on SportsRadio 1450 AM and will also be streamed live via the Charleston Battery website.  Immediately following the match on Saturday there will be a season-opening FIREWORKS spectacular.
