COLORADO SPRINGS – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today that Steve Trittschuh has been selected as the first Head Coach in club history, set to launch in 2015. The announcement was made at St. Francis Medical Center, the team’s first local title sponsor.
“Steve Trittschuh came highly recommended by the USL PRO league offices and virtually every reference we called,” said Switchbacks President Nick Ragain. “Tritt has been at the center of soccer growth in America for the past 30 years including his play in the successful World Cup qualifying match in 1989 after a 40-year USA drought. He brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and relationships to our club that will attract talented young players to help us compete.”
Trittschuh was a High School All-American from Illinois, a scholarship athlete at Southern Illinois University, a U.S. Olympic athlete competing in the 1988 Seoul Olympics, a starter on the 1990 U.S. National Team that competed in the FIFA World Cup in Italy, the first American to play in the European Cup, played seven years in Major League Soccer and competed for an MLS Cup with the 1997 Colorado Rapids. Trittschuh was an assistant coach with the Colorado Rapids from 2001 to 2006 and won one MLS reserve title. For the past several years, Trittschuh has coached with the top youth clubs in the State of Colorado, most recently for the Colorado Storm, and has performed duties for MLS and U.S. Soccer, and is a member of the Colorado Youth Soccer Association Hall of Fame.
“I feel it is an honor and a privilege to be the first coach of the Switchbacks and to bring professional soccer to the Colorado Springs area," said Trittschuh. "I am excited to put together a competitive and exciting team that will play a style of soccer that will be fun to watch. I look forward to seeing everyone at the stadium for the 2015 season.”
The Switchbacks FC continue to build out their franchise by hiring local marketing firm Vladimir Jones to orchestrate the brand, working with Populous Architects on improvements to Sand Creek Stadium, and opening offices downtown Colorado Springs in the Alamo Building.
