CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Charleston Battery have transferred midfielder Micheal Azira to Major League Soccer’s Seattle Sounders FC. Azira spent the past two seasons with the Battery and enjoyed a stellar 2013 campaign that saw him score six goals with two assists in 31 games. His performance earned him selection to the 2013 USL PRO All-League Team.

Azira’s lone previous goal for Charleston was a crucial one as he scored the game-winner in the Battery’s 1-0 2012 USL PRO Championship win versus the Wilmington Hammerheads.

“Micheal has done a fantastic job with the Charleston Battery and has proved and earned his place with Seattle," Battery Head Coach Mike Anhaeuser said. "We wish him the best of luck.”

Azira played collegiately at Lindsay Wilson College and University of Mobile, where he earned NAIA All-America Honorable Mention. He also competed for the Mississippi Brilla in the PDL, where he earned All-Southern Conference honors in 2011. The native of Kampala, Uganda, Azira was called into the Uganda National Team for a 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifier.

Azira is the fourth Charleston Battery player to transition to Major League Soccer’s Sounders, following Osvaldo Alonso, Lamar Neagle and Alex Caskey.

The Charleston Battery kicks off its USL PRO season on March 22 versus the Orlando City Lions.  2014 Charleston Battery season ticket packages are still available for purchase including a limited number of exclusive Three Lions Club memberships.  Season ticket packages include reserved seats to all Charleston Battery home matches plus discounted U.S. Open Cup and playoff tickets.  For more information please visit www.charlestonbattery.com or call (843) 971-GOAL (4625).
