TAMPA, Fla. – The Super Y-League announced the participants and coaches for its 2014 Girls ODP National Camp today, with the event running Thursday through Sunday (March 6-9) at the world-class facilities of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. The more than 160 invitees will train under the supervision of top college and youth coaches while also competing in the IMG Cup College Showcase, where they will be scouted by top colleges from throughout the country.
The coaching staff at the event, once again assembled and led by USL National Technical Director Peter Mellor, will include the University of Maine’s Scott Atherley, Rice University's Brandon Gwin, Gardner-Webb University's Mike Varga and Erskine College's Gary Winchester. Scouts from colleges such as Auburn, LSU, Florida Atlantic and Florida Gulf Coast will also be on hand to evaluate the top-level talent from the U13 to U16 divisions.
Among the players set to attend for the U15/16 age group are Virginia Alliance defender Olivia Kobayaashi, a 2013 SYL North American Finals U17 All-Tournament Team selection, as well as Kalamazoo Kingdom midfielder Kathryn Nutter - who shared the tournament’s U16 Golden Boot honors after tallying three goals in five games - and U15 Golden Boot winner Taylor Chapman of Super Nova FC.
The U13/14 age group will include Virginia Alliance's Breanna Mitchell, the U14 SYL North American Finals Golden Boot winner, as well as Alliance Academy Black's Madison Donley, who earned the U13 Golden Boot.
In addition to training sessions each day, the U13/14 and U15/16 teams will also compete three times during the weekend in the renowned IMG Cup College Showcase. One of the top showcase events in the country, the IMG Cup will give the players a chance to face teams from throughout the country in front of numerous college scouts, and implement lessons absorbed throughout the weekend from practice into live action.
