WATERLOO, Ont. -- English midfielder Jack Warburton will return to K-W United FC for the upcoming 2014 PDL season. Previously playing for Hamilton FC, Warburton continued with the team through its re-franchising to K-W United FC in the 2013 season.
Growing up playing under the Watford Football Academy, Warburton continued on to play for English professional club, Leicester City. He also has international experience having been named to the Northern Ireland National Team from 2008 to 2012.
The 2013 PDL season ended on a high for Warburton, who captained the teams final six games in which they went undefeated, just missing playoff qualification.
"I'm delighted to be coming back to K-W this season," Warburton said. "I feel its only right to return to K-W and go that extra step to the playoffs, which we narrowly missed out on last year. Theres a great feel about this club including all the staff members, players and the exceptional fan support we got last year. Just hoping we can start from where we left off last season."
Known for his consistent performance, he was also awarded two honours, Player's Player of the Year and MVP, which are awarded annually by the club. Warburton was named man of the match for three games and was also recognized with an honourable mention by the USL PDL for the week of June 27th following the game against Toronto.
"I felt I had a strong season and was happy to collect the awards, but that was 2013," Warburton said. "This year is a complete new start with new additions to the squad so I'm sure we will all work together to gel as quick as we can and try to bring K-W all the success it deserves."
K-W United opens the PDL season on the road on May 18th against the Toronto Lynx at Sheridan College. Game time is 4 p.m.
