TUKWILA, Wash. – Sounders Women 2013 defender Shannon Woeller is going to Norway to play for IK Grand Bodø after signing her first professional contract. IK Grand Bodø play in Toppserien, the top division of Norwegian women’s soccer.
“I am really excited and honored to have signed my first professional contract," Woeller said. "This is a great opportunity for me to play in a top league in Europe and I think I will learn so much from this experience.”
Woeller played in eight games for the club last season, netting one goal and one assist. She finished with the second most points among Sounders’ defenders. The Canadian National Teamer was a rock in the back for the Sounders until she sustained a fracture in her ankle, ending her W-League season.
“Shannon has shown tremendous dedication and perseverance to overcome her injury last year," Sounders Women Head Coach and General Manager Hubert Busby Jr. said. "Her commitment to being the best every time she steps on the field will put her in good stead, as she embarks on a pro career. We are proud of her accomplishment.”
