IRVINE, Calif. -- Orange County Blues FC is pleased to announce the re-signing of midfielder Gabriel “Gabi” Gonzalez. A native of Nayarit, Mexico, Gonzalez has lived in Oxnard, Calif. since 1996. He attended Hueneme High School, where he is currently coaches. His college career took him to Oxnard College and Cal Baptist, where he earned MVP of The Golden State Athletic Conference in 2008.
Gonzalez, 26, scored a total of six goals and added four assists in 24 matches last season with the LA Blues. “We have chemistry and great friendships. I believe we can win a lot of games this year,” said Gonzalez, who’s looking forward to the New Blues Era, the inaugural season with OC Blues FC, where he is glad to be reunited with many familiar faces from last season.
“Signing Gabi Gonzalez brings us another starter from our squad in 2013," said Blues General Manager Jon Spencer. "He is an important piece to our midfield. His size and athleticism will be important to our squad. He was one of the players that showed a continual progression throughout the season and has full potential and ability to help us compete for a Championship.”
