WILMINGTON, N.C. – Wilmington Hammerheads FC announced today they have signed forward/midfielder Tsotleho “Sunny” Jane for the upcoming 2014 USL PRO regular season. Jane, a former player for the University of Maryland men’s soccer team, will make his professional debut with the Hammerheads this season.
“I am looking forward to playing the best soccer I have ever played in my life,” said Jane. “My goal is to help take the team to the championship this coming season.”
A native of South Africa, Jane played for the U15-16 Lesotho National Team before moving to the United States at the age of 13 years old to advance his soccer career while being recruited by United 1996 FC in Louisville, Ky. Jane became an all-state player at Trinity High School in Louisville and was listed as the No. 10 recruit in the country by TopDrawerSoccer.com before committing to play at Maryland for Head Coach Sasho Cirovski.
Cirovski was known to routinely refer to Jane as one of the most dynamic players in the country.
"Sunny Jane is a very dynamic attacking player with a cultured left foot,” said Cirovski. “He will become a fan favorite instantly both with his play and his charming personality. He was a joy to coach and a pleasure to be around. He had many magic moments for us and I know he will produce the same and more for the Hammerheads."
Jane played in every match in back-to-back seasons during his 2012 and 2013 campaigns. He recorded eight goals and 19 assists in four seasons with the Terrapins. He was picked an All-ACC second team selection in 2011.
The Hammerheads kick off their 2014 USL PRO regular season on Saturday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. versus the Harrisburg City Islanders at Legion Stadium.
