NEWTOWN, Conn. – David Kelly will continue his tenure as CFC Azul’s Head Coach. The club is excited to announce today that Kelly has agreed to coach the PDL squad for a third season.
“I am excited to be back for another year with CFC Azul,” Kelly said. “It’s a fantastic club with big plans, and they’re a group that try to do things right. It’s a really professional setup, and I am delighted that I will be in charge of the first team again. With the support of owner Peter D’Amico, President Steve Coxon, and General Manager Robin Schuppert, this year will be the club’s best yet.”
Kelly, who also serves as the Assistant Coach for the Central Connecticut State University men’s soccer program, has been the first team head coach since the club’s inaugural PDL season in 2012.
New to the PDL, Kelly led the Azul to a fourth-place finish in the Northeast Division with an overall record of 6-5-5 in 2012. The Azul finished third in the Division in goals scored (24) and second in goals against (14). In an injury ridden 2013 campaign Kelly led the Azul to a 2-6-6 record, good for a sixth place finish in the Northeast Division.
Kelly will name his coaching staff for the 2014 season in the coming weeks.
“I’m extremely happy Dave has decided to return for another season,” CFC Azul General Manager Robin Schuppert said. “Last year’s results were no indication of his qualities but rather the effects of the injury-bug which stuck with our team all season. He’s a great coach, works extremely hard and holds the players to a very high standard. I know he’s in the process of putting together a great squad for the upcoming season.”
The club has announced the first two dates of open tryouts for the 2014 PDL season scheduled for February 4th and 5th. CLICK HERE to register.
