HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The Harrisburg City Islanders have officially sold defender Andrew Ribeiro to Chivas USA of Major League Soccer. The 6-foot, 180-pound defender played in 24 matches last season for the City Islanders. Ribeiro tallied more than 1,600 minutes on the pitch and was able to record one assist for the City Islanders.
“Andrew did a great job for us last year; he was able to fill in at center back after some critical injuries," said City Islanders coach Bill Becher. "This is a great opportunity for Andrew and we wish him the best of luck in his endeavors.”
Prior to his time with the City Islanders, Ribeiro played collegiately for the Creighton Blue Jays in the Missouri Valley Conference. During his time at Creighton, Ribeiro helped lead the Blue Jays to two NCAA College Cup Appearances.
The recent transfer makes Ribeiro the eighth City Islander player to move up to Major League Soccer since 2009. Coach Becher has helped send a wide array of City Islander players to the ranks of the MLS. Included in this list are current Philadelphia Union players Sheanon Williams and Yann Ekra.
