Toronto Lady Lynx star Kadeisha Buchanan has been named Canadian U-20 Player of the Year for the 2013 soccer season. Buchanan was honored in a vote shared by national-team coaches (50%) and Canadian clubs and coaches (50%).
Buchanan, of West Virginia University, has been a member of Canada's national youth program since 2010, although she has been a regular with the national "A" squad throughout the 2013 season. She earned Canada's player-of-the-match honours in five international matches in 2013.
A center back from Mississauga, Ontario, Buchanan finished first in voting ahead of a pair of 2013 Lady Lynx teammates - Ashley Lawrence (Toronto Lady Lynx & West Virginia University/Calendon East, Onatrio) and Kailen Sheridan (Toronto Lady Lynx & Clemson University/Whitby, Ontario).
In the coming days, the Canadian Soccer Association will announce the 2013 BMO Canadian Players of the Year, with the two co-winners to be announced on Thursday (male) and Friday (female).
Buchanan continues the tradition of U-20 Players of the Year with W-League backgrounds, with each of the winners since 2005 also having played in the league.
