GREENVILLE, S.C. – Carolina Elite Cobras women's soccer standout Stephanie DeVita has been invited to the United States U-20 National Team's training camp which runs Sunday through December 1 at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.
DeVita, a sophomore at Furman University, tallied 15 goals, including seven match-winners, and added nine assists in 23 matches this season. The Simpsonville, S.C., native and Hillcrest High School product captured first team All-Southern Conference honors and SoCon Tournament MVP accolades this season while leading the Paladins to a 17-4-2 record and the league's regular season and tournament titles.
"Steph works very hard and is the ultimate team player," Cobras Head Coach Sandy Burris said. "She has earned the chance to prove that she belongs on the highest levels and I know she will make us all proud."
"I have always dreamed of this and now it is actually happening," DeVita said, adding that playing in the W-League this past season was extremely helpful for her in preparing for the NCAA season.
DeVita joined the Cobras for the 2013 season and was immediately an important part of a team that made it to the W-League final four in only its second season. In two seasons at Furman, she has netted 34 goals and registered 13 assists. The 2012 SoCon Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year ranks in the school's career top 10 in goals, total points and match-winning goals. She has helped Furman to a combined 33-7-5 mark in two seasons.
