LAVAL, Quebec - Quebec native Cindy Walsh, who was appointed as head coach of the Laval Comets in 2013 and promptly led Laval to within one game of a title, will return for the 2014 season. Walsh enjoyed a dream season in 2013, leading the Comets to the Central Conference title and the W-League final, two goals never previously achieved by the organization. She was also named W-League Coach of the Year.
Walsh played 11 seasons in the W-League with four different teams, the Laval Dynamites, the Toronto Inferno, the Western Mass Pioneers and the Comets. Also an experienced coach, she has served as the assistant to the technical director of the Regional Soccer Association of the South Shore since 2009, overseeing the female regional selection (U-13) of the South Shore. She also worked as an assistant coach with Team Quebec from 2007 to 2009.
"We knew that Cindy had the potential to create this level of play, but it still surprised us with the speed of learning," Comets General Manager Philippe Ciarlo said. "Her great strength was quickly adapting and changing the style and game system to propel the team to the top. Despite the success of the early season, she quickly realized that it would not last."
Walsh, under the influence of emotion , announced to her team at the end of the season that she would not return in 2014 to focus on her family. However, following a recent meeting with the CEO, she has decide to return.
